Karuna Annavajjala
Hi my name is Karuna Annavajjala from NC, Recently I got opportunity to visit two of Be Educated Libraries located in AP/Telangana States of India.
I would like to share my experience. First library is in village Begumpet, Mandal Yacharam, Ranga Reddy District, has been established in partnership with Gnana Saraswathi Foundation. The village population is about 2500 and the library is supporting youth in the local community. It is utilized by students ranging from high school to degree programs; including job search preparation like police department and railways. The local youth are doing a great job managing the library affairs on a voluntary basis in the absence of a designated librarian. They are well supported by Mr. Srinivas, Mr. Yadagiri, Mr Mahesh, the village elders and many other volunteers among the village youth.
Second library is in village Nandi Wanaparthy, Mandal Kandukur, Ranga Reddy District, serves school age children in this and multiple neighboring villages. This village population is about 5000. The library is set up at the local Youth Center and is being managed by a designated librarian. The teachers at the local government school encourage their students to use the library resources. They also offer homework help at the library center.
The visit to the libraries was very insightful and helped us understand the local community needs. Accessibility to computer and internet would greatly benefit these remote communities and help us deliver more programs to the villages. Be Educated thanks the youth and elders in Village Begumpet for their enthusiasm and commitment, and thank you to the teachers and local youth in village Nandi Wanaparthy for their dedication and support.
